China’s children are required to attend nine years of compulsory schooling. However, those born in more rural areas do not have equal access to quality education. Discouraged by rigid teaching methods that stifle their interest in learning, many children discontinue their education and face a future of low-paying manual labor jobs.

To break this cycle, equal access to quality education is crucial. However, Chinese schools in rural areas predominantly lack well-educated, student-centered teachers. Without quality instructors, students do not receive individualized attention. Teach For China works to solve this problem by recruiting and training college graduates to serve as full time teachers in these under-resourced Chinese schools. Teach for China believes that its teachers will enhance the quality of the education in these schools and offer children the attention and encouragement they need to pursue their dreams and aspirations.
